SAILING ON A SEA OF ATOMS
EU has identified Nuclear Energy as a significant contributor to the Net Zero ambition. The Commission has acknowledged the benefits of the potential development of nuclear infrastructure as an enabler of commercial and industrial activities, electric energy generation , thermal power and steam production.

EU is focusing on the SMRs, identifying the technology as a key solution for the wide adoption of Nuclear Industry. Visit EU Portal for further guidance (here).

On March 2026 the Strategy on the SMRs was published in an effort to support the Members and the Industry. Main focus is on advice for cooperation between the Members to minimize duplication and ensure resources best allocation. Guidance on the establishment of innovation enablers, such as "Valleys" or "Supply Chains" is also provided.
Strategy is available (
here).

EU aiming to enhance Nuclear adoption further has formed the European Industrial Alliance on Small Modular Reactors (SMRs). It plans to facilitate and accelerate the development, demonstration, and deployment of SMRs in Europe by setting specific target for 2030s.

The Alliance Objectives and way of actions can be found in EU Portal (
here).
